Remember the Alamo? Yes it is located right here in downtown San Antonio, Texas. Our population is 1,214,725 as of 7/1/2003 estimate - 8th Largest City in the USA and 2nd largest city in Texas ( source: U.S. Census Bureau ). The Riverwalk ! Missions ! Home of the San Antonio Spurs, NBA Champions 1999,2003,2005 and 2007 ! Military USA ! Rodeo(Feb)! Fiesta(April) ! Seaworld ! Six Flags Fiesta Texas ! Golf ! and many more.....
What exactly is " Alamo Ba ... ? " This is a short Filipino-Tagalog phrase when translated into English means " Do you know ? Just to give this website an intriguing twist of " The Alamo ! "
According to the 2000 census, San Antonio population was 1,144,646 (9) in the nation. Asian population in San antonio: 17,934 (1.6% of SA'S total population) and the number of Filipinos were 3815 (0.3% of the total Asian Population of San Antonio) and the number of Filipino-Americans today continue to grow. Recent reports say that San Antonio is now the 7th largest city in the US.
East meets West ! Asians of different Ethnicities can be seen during the Asian New Year in February and Texas Folklife Festival in June held at The Institute of Texan Cultures. Unfortunately the Filipino Exhibit has been taken off the display floor of the Institute of Texan Cultures s few years ago and there has been some talk about bringing it back. Let's Keep the Bayanihan Spirit going !
The Alamo Asian American Chamber of Commerce ( www.alamo-aacc.org )has played an active role networking in the community and in the far east.
San Antonio has a lot to offer to make it worth your visit. Looking for karaoke or just plain fun under the sun, waterparks, themeparks and golf etc. you name it, we have it. A drive out to the Hill country or an appetite for mouth watering Tex-Mex cuisine, BBQ and Asian cuisines. Don't worry we have Filipino Stores and Restaurants here too. There's always a Pinoy(filipino) somewhere. Besides we are the second largest asian-american subgroup in the United States.

The Philippine Nurses Association of San Antonio (PNASA)under the leadership of Aurora Parocha RN, President of PNASA 2007-2009 recently celebrated it's 20th Anniversary on March 21, 2009. The new PNASA Executive Board will be sworn in on June 27, 2009 at Western Hills Christian Church Hall followed by a Dinner, Dance Variety Show. Tickets available $10 donation. PNASA BBQ Fundraiser Events $5.00 per plate for May 23rd and June 20th infront of Filipino Express from 11am to 2pm. Raffle Tickets 1 for $2.00 and 3 for $5.00. On April 14, 2007, Philippine Boxing Sensation Manny Pacquiao defeated Mexican Boxer Jorge Solis at The Alamodome here in San Antonio. Many Filipino boxing fans of Pacquiao throughout the US and from Philippines converged here to show their support for him.
Since 2006, Several Well known Filipino Artists and Performers have been down here to entertain us such Martin Nievera, Nora Aunor, Bernardo Bernardo, Aiza Seguerra, Pilita Corales, Pork Chop Duo, Marco Sison in Summer '08 and just recently " PRIMO " in Feb. 2009. Eddie Mesa and Rosemary Gil have been frequent visitors to the Alamo City. The Movie " Ploning " staring Judy Ann Santos was shown here in San Antonio last year.
Recently, The Angelos (Dubbed as Asia's Il Divo) and Jonathan Badon " The Philippines Prince of Operatic Pop " visited San Antonio before their concert in McAllen, TX. They maybe coming here to San Antonio in August '09 for a live concert performance. For more information about them visit. www.theangelos.net / you tube and sample their beautiful music.

Last year in March 2008, Melinda Agpauao-Rodriguez PT, DPT was the first Filipina inducted into the San Antonio Woman's Hall of Fame in the Business and Finance Category. A proud Thomasian ! and is also the current President 2009-2011 of the Alamo Asian American Chamber of Commerce. www.alamo-aacc.org
I also had the opportunity to meet US Department of Labor Secretary Elaine Chao last year in March '08 along with San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger and other Asian American leaders during a dinner sponsored by the Alamo Asian American Chamber of Commerce.
San Antonio Texas Villages Foundation Inc. and United Filipino Association, on June 14, 2008 Celebrated Philippine Independence Day and Miss Philippines Pageant held at the Double Tree Hotel.
In 2009 SA Politics, Congratulations to Elisa Chan who won her seat in city council for Distirct 9 and to Julian Castro who also won his bid as Mayor for San Antonio.
The UST BSN Class of 1986 have tentative plans of having their 25th year reunion here in the Alamo City.
So on your next vacation make San Antonio your next travel destination and consider relocating here.
